Forging

TECT Power has one of the largest, most complete set of closed-die forging capabilities in the world, specializing in airfoils and other contoured shapes. Our competencies include precision, oversize, hybrid, upset and extrusion forging processes. TECT Power has more than 30 mechanical and screw presses – ranging in size from 500 to 12,000 tons – that are capable of forging plan areas ranging from less than 1 square inch to nearly 300 square inches. TECT Power also has a proprietary computer-based forge die design system capable of translating customer data into forge die geometries, while automatically compensating for material type and workpiece configuration. In fact, all of our die manufacturing is done in-house using hard die mills, significantly reducing cost and lead time.

Forge Tool Design

TECT Power has the capabilities to design forge tools on-site. We utilize a unique computer-based forge die design and build system capable of translating customer data into forge punch and die geometries, while automatically compensating for the forged materials and the workpiece configuration. Once a new design is devised, it is carefully analyzed to determine proper input volume and preform design. CAD data is entered into our design systems, where the forge plane and flash designs for optimal material flow are determined to achieve the desired dimensional and metallurgical characteristics. Tool design works closely with NC programmers to achieve the precise amount of envelope for machining finished or negative surfaces.

Forge Die Build

TECT Power also has the capabilities to build and modify forge dies on-site. Once a die is designed, one of our milling experts mills the die into hardened tool steel. We then verify the accuracy of the finished tool against the CAD model using a coordinate measuring machine. Our degreed metallurgists oversee the entire process and ensure the quality and precision of each tool. Having these capabilities on-site allows TECT Power to reduce costs, to produce forgings faster and to maintain outstanding quality in every forged piece.

Extruding

TECT Power has the expertise to create both upsettings and extrusions for forgings. Or we can just forge from bar stock. This forging flexibility allows us to better meet your desired specifications and gives you more control over the finished forging. So tell us what you need, or even turn to one of our degreed metallurgists to help you select the process that's just right for your component. With so many performing variables, we have the capabilities to customize the forging process that perfectly suits your specifications.

Hybrid forging

TECT Power specializes in both oversize and precision forgings of tightly toleranced, complex shapes, such as aerospace, steam and gas turbine engine airfoils. You won't find a more capable set of equipment or team in the industry. Our large variety of presses allows us to produce a great variety of forgings with the exact specifications and properties you desire. At TECT Power, we've transformed an old form of metal formation into a modernized and highly specialized process, yielding the exact mechanical properties necessary for the harsh environment that turbine engine components must withstand.

Specifications

TECT Power produces forgings with an OAL of 1" to 60", a maximum diameter of 15" and a maximum weight of 135 lb. out of the full spectrum of nickel, steel, aluminum and titanium alloys, as well as some superalloys.
